NZD lower as USD rises

Tapering talk has pushed the USD up and the NZD down. Volatility will be at times extreme in the coming year as tapering gets underway – or not – then ends – or not.

A summary of housing

This week I give a simple dot-point summary of the situation and reiterate that in a market constrained by supply prices will rise and the rises spread out of Auckland and Christchurch. These are early days for this housing cycle.

Fixed rates are going to rise it looks now that Fed. tapering looks highly probable later this year.

Growth At 2.5%

This morning we learnt that our economy achieved a growth rate during the March quarter of a slower than expected 0.3% with the boost from Christchurch reconstruction offset by a fall in agricultural production courtesy of the drought.
