As a result of a 24.6% surge at a time when receipts from all other destinations fell by 5.1%, our exports to China including Hong Kong now total $8.4bn or 18.1% of all receipts. A year ago this proportion was 14.4% and back in 2008 it was 7%. New Zealand’s exports to China have soared. Australia takes 21% of our merchandise exports.
